Creativity, Inc.

Toastmasters is a platform for creativity. Not just in speeches but also in administering a club, Our sister club has been hybrid (in-person and online) the last 17 months, we employed content marketing to still be able to recruit new members in an oversaturated market and who knows what’s next.

Innovations

We have had a history of innovations, We started as a Saturday morning club back in 2007 when it was still kinda taboo to have a weekend club back then, And we remain a Saturday morning club after 17 years when traffic has grown and made it difficult to hold weekday meetings. We had erstwhile or earlier speakers evaluate subsequent speakers due to lack of evaluators. This was to address the lack or scarcity of evaluators. After doing a speech and with speech out of the way, doing an evaluation is a fresh start. Technically, you could have X – 1 evaluators for X number of speakers. Speakers develop faster taking on a prepared speech and an extemporaneous speech (evaluation) in a single meeting. This allowed us to have as many as 8 speakers for consecutive weeks back then and not having to add a day for meetings.

In 2009, we had the first Facebook page in the district. We also had our Facebook Group but only got it useful in 2018 when we decided that it house our speech videos for privacy. We also had our website with the domain name “toastmasters.ph” and very own host. Back then we got members through SEO or search engine optimization. This was to learn another form of communication and to learn the innards of setting up a website.

Then came the pandemic in 2020. We were among the first clubs to go online in the world, not just the district, as we had participated in the official Toastmaster study group for online clubs back in 2014. And post-pandemic we remain the only consistent and properly-equipped hybrid club in the district. The hybrid setup allowed us to have provincial and foreign members. With the oversaturation of social media, we were still able to get members in numbers through content marketing or through relentless Facebook posts everyday. So let us not neglect guests in our meetings. Don’t consider them walk-ins as they are a result of a comprehensive marketing effort.

Art Inc.

Approach Toastmasters as an art and not a series of speech assignments tasked to be completed. We will have WCPS semifinalist and Youtube artist Kyle Murtagh as guest.

Truth at Work

The truth matters! The greatest workplaces have one thing in common; they speak the truth! And they do it without causing anger, resentment, or defensiveness.

Unfortunately, a whopping 80 to 90 percent of employees and managers are reluctant, or struggle, to speak the truth. This includes members of this organization. We can’t forever hide behind this euphemism.

State of the Club

With the year already a third done, we are filled with wonder with what we have done. Going mainstream we already have achieved 8 DCP or Distinguished Club Program goals with still nearly eight months to go but 2 more goals to go. We have remained a hybrid club the last 15 months with nobody following suit. (We know why but that’s a subject for another day). We are regularly getting new members in an oversaturated market, thanks to the proper implementation of content marketing. It takes two years of intensive work to get content marketing going. In addition, we have a very active Facebook page and a not-so-active website with its own host and domain name. It is up to the rest of the clubs to follow suit, we can only lead and show the way. We have refused to pad membership and achievements and are reaping the rewards. Rewards spurred by patience and creativity. Creativity that comes out if one abhors padding membership and achievements. Cheating simply won’t bring out your creativity.

The problem with Toastmasters

The problem with Toastmasters is that when the pandemic started, everybody went online. Now with COVID-19 under relative control, most everybody remain online because of traffic issues preventing clubs from going back to in-person meetings. And with most clubs remain online, the market has reached an oversaturation point. Clubs need to step up their marketing–try everything in their arsenal including content marketing.

Master Content Marketing

Content Marketing should be included in the curriculum of Toastmasters. It’s how we communicate on the web and, more importantly, how we get members and sell products. 99% of Toastmasters are unskilled in this but it is far more important than conventional speaking as it is confined to the room while speaking to the web could impact millions. It’s a whole new world of communications out there.

Join us this Wednesday, September 18, 7:30PM (1130 UTC) via Zoom–https://zoom.us/j/5467232757 or Zoom ID 5467232757. And learn how to effectively market. Participants get free audiobooks on content msrketing.
